{"id":1584,"date":"2019-04-22T11:30:34","date_gmt":"2019-04-22T11:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ccomsys.net\/million-dollar-idea\/?p=1584"},"modified":"2022-03-02T12:49:02","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T12:49:02","slug":"insights-digital-consumer-spending-in-india-a-100-billion-opportunity-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ccomdigital.in\/blog\/insights-digital-consumer-spending-in-india-a-100-billion-opportunity-part-1\/","title":{"rendered":"[INSIGHTS] Digital Consumer Spending in India &#8211; A $100 Billion Opportunity (Part 1)"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Digital India has catapulted in the last few years, and the numbers are very compelling:<\/p>\r\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Internet users<\/strong> have grown by <strong>1.8x<\/strong> from 239 million in 2013 to <strong>430 million in 2017<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Smartphone users<\/strong> have grown by <strong>4.7x<\/strong> from 68 million in 2013 to <strong>320 million in 2017<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This growth has been propelled by three forces:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Smartphone price:<\/strong> Average price has decreased from \u20b917,000 to \u20b98,500<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Data tariffs:<\/strong> Have decreased from \u20b92.6 per GB to \u20b90.5 &#8211; \u20b90.9 per GB<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Local language mobile first content:<\/strong> Non-English watchtime has <strong>grown by more than 2x<\/strong> and local language searches have <strong>grown by more than 10x<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>And, the drivers of this growth are:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Women users:<\/strong> Estimated to grow by <strong>3x<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Tier 2\/3\/4 users:<\/strong> Estimated to grow by <strong>3x<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Number of 35+ year olds:<\/strong> Estimated to grow by <strong>3x<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Online spenders base is estimated to double-triple across sectors:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>e-Commerce will grow from ~80 million users to 200 million users<\/li>\r\n<li>Travel &amp; hotel will grow from ~60 million users to 160 million users<\/li>\r\n<li>Financial services will grow from ~85 million users to 180 million users<\/li>\r\n<li>Digital entertainment users will grow from ~2 million subscribers to 18 million subscribers<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>But there\u2019s a large set of triggers &amp; barriers that dominate the Indian online shopper\u2019s mindset.
